Hiking
Ik love hiking. Especially in the mountains. Sadly, those are (almost) always far away. Luckily, most of my (former) places of residence have other great things to offer: Mainz has vineyards and castles, Haarlem has dunes. But great as they are, they cannot replace mountains. So if we go on holiday, we often make multi-day hikes, hut-to-hut, town-to-town. The most interesting hikes are given below.

Alta Via 1
The Alta Via 1 is a nice first multi-day hike in the Dolomites. This is a shortened variant, with shorter days, and avoiding Via Ferratas. Eight days of hiking.

West Highland Way
The West Highland Way is an iconic track trough Schotland, going from the lowlands to the highlands. Sadly very busy, but the beauty of the Way is hard to deny. This is an eight-day version.

Haute Route
Though trail through the Swiss Alps, starting at the Mont Blanc, finishing at the Matterhorn. We had pretty bad weather during our hike, so the trail shown here has some adaptations.

Following the Linge
Walk from Geldermalsen to Leerdam in three days. Farms, forests, small rivers and fruit trees; what else can you wish for.

Two countries, one Mountain
Spend three days in the mountains between the Allgäu (Germany) and Vorlaber (Austria). Nature and culture ignore the border, and so will we. Great views without having to climb huge peaks.

Rheinburgenweg
The Rheinburgenweg follows the Rhine from Bingen to Rolandsbogen via Koblenz and passes the prettiest bits of Germany, the Mittelrheintal. As the name suggest, you pass a seemingly unending series of castles along the way. This router is the forgotten sister of the classic Rheinsteig route, and (in my opinion) better.
